BATTLEFIELD BC2!
Being a fan of FPS, DICE and the BF titles (mainly bf2) I was very excited to hear that BFBC2 was coming out for the PC. For those that dont know about it. Battlefield is a large scale fps which shines strongly in multiplayer. Offering tanks, buggies, jeeps, boats, helicopters and of course good old infantry on foot.
With BFBC2 it boasts the Havoc engine, an engine allowing you to blast holes in anything :O
The sound effects are using a new HDR system which works beautifully. I stood and gawped.

I shall be surely playing it, I have played a bit of the BETA and I loved it. I cant wait to get my teeth into this game. I will be joining my FPS gamers but I shall surely be up for pyran adventures on the battlefield.
Anyone played?

Yeah teams, squads and classes.
You get Assault, Engineer, Medic, Recon.
Assault gets assault rifles and ammo bags
Engineer gets bazookas/mines and can repair vechiles.
Medic gets heavy machine guns and medic bags
Recon gets sniper rifles and mortars and sensors
HOWEVER, each class unlocks a plethora of weapons, each game you get rewards and unlocks for random generic weapons etc. So you could be a recon class with a shotgun or sub machine gun but with a mortar and sensor ability..... actually not a bad idea.
I love playing engy though, using bazookas up the arse of tanks ^.^

Pre-loaded and ready to activate in 5 minutes and counting. Quite a number of friends have the game via my other community(playstuff.net) and we got a server ready to go online ect and all that, should be good fun. May enjoy shooting some of you in the head at some point?

Might help some people..
First off, your probably used to traditional FOV (Field of View) in games like Team Fortress 2. Bad Company 2’s Field of View is a little different. Let me explain. Bad Company 2’s default FoV is designed for console use aka “The 10 Foot Hud”.
The FOV setting in settings.ini is vertical instead of horizontal. That’s why 90-100 degree FOVs look so fish-eye compared to most games. However, changing vertical FOV does proportionally change horizontal FOV.
To determine what sort of Field of View would be appropriate for your particular screen resolution, use this Calculator to determine what value you should set your settings.ini file to.
FOV Comparison
(All taken from the same position looking at the same spot at a resolution of 1920*1200 (Resized for the forum))

You can change this at:
My Documents > BFBC2 > settings.ini
FoV or alike, below is a chart of conversions. if you know your preferred horizontal setting already (e.g. from BF2/TF2 etc):
55 FoV = ~80 horizontal FoV
65 FoV = ~90 horizontal FoV
75 FoV = ~100 horizontal FoV
85 FoV = ~110 horizontal FoV
95 FoV = ~120 horizontal FoV

I've played a good few hours now, maybe 20+ actual game time.
The game itself blows my mind! The factors that make it stand out are the sound...
THE SOUND is amazing, please... if you play this game play with GOOD sound equipment. Dont settle for those £9.99 headphones from argos. Whack on the speakers or good headphones and give your ears an eargasm!!
When your sprinting across the road and a bradley tank clocks you, turns its massive turret and starts unloading its payload at you, first you hear the footsteps of your dude, distant gunfire and the crunching of the soil. The tank fires a shell but misses because Avatis is driving it. The sound screams past smashing into the building your running for cover. The wall blows away, the glass smashes, the tank booms as more shells scatter around. You skid around the corner into cover of the building. You know you only have a few seconds to reload the rpg before the tank removes another part of the wall.
During this entire scene the game is using HDR (I think), a new technology (at least to be implemented in a game), a technology that makes not only the sound less buggy, but it removes that "game/mechanical" feel. It is a program but instead of:
*tank fires, play fire91.wav
it calculates whats loudest, furthest, nearest, important, "real" and plays a variation of the sound at a certain volume.
This REALLY makes the game shine. Also it has soundscapes, so if your in the desert, a small hut, a large hanger, etc.. the sounds change. The tank outside becomes muffled, the ak firing becomes echoy.. etc.
But enough about the eargasming explosion of sound juice dribbling out of my ear canal.... ear.
The gameplay to me is.. imagine BF2, COD4, Far cry and red faction.
Merge the best parts together. BFBC2.
I've been playing with my ESD clan and loving it. Running around in squads on skype communicating, giving orders, driving tanks, humvees, apaches.. screaming and laughing with joy as we level an entire base. One comment was:
"omfg, I love it, I hear farske in the UAV above us giving us information"
I was hovering above them spotting and launching hellfire missles at the enemy armour.
At one point I was in a train yard ducking and weaving all alone with my silenced uzi and knife. I took out a squad of 6 guys, alone, with my knife mainly. All because of sound, Listening to it and timing movement. I felt like a predator from AVP. It was fucking sweet.
I've rolled across in the desert in an abrams tank, shelling the shit out of spotted enemy armour that our sniper's were spotting for us. The game offers an amazing erray of gameplay and tactics.
My only gripe has been the first few days.. EA have REALLY let this game down.. okay they experienced 400% MORE people over the expected playerbase to be online at once, and thus servers imploded... but come on EA... SORT that shit.
Thinking of over downsides.. maybe the firefights, sometimes it takes 4/5 hits to kill someone, lets say you hit in every 3 shots.. you sometimes use an entire clip to kill someone. But then this is 1v1 engagements.. Its a squad game ppl argue.
Also.. headshots = dead.
If you like Operation Flashpoint realism its not quite that...
UNLESS you headshot.. NO gun can 1 shot 1 kill.. not even snipers.
Now I know you may just think im biased fan boi, maybe I am but I havent really played the bf series before online. I LOVED CoD4 and IWARD fucked that up for MW2. So maybe I just NEED to get BFBC2 to be better, just to stick one to IWARd... but the fact remains I played with wood for 15hours the other day.
Check out some Videos online, better yet get a game of it.. find someone you know and watch, or play yourself.
Ive woffled, and I've rambled... maybe avatis and forcaz can share what the think.
Farske Out.

I Had BF 2142 And felt the urge to play it again recently, reminded me how much fun these games were.
Only gripe was Punkbuster kept kicking me after 1 or 2 minutes (its a known problem experienced by many regardles of whether you actually cheat or not), so I've shied away from them ever since,
Glad to hear your having fun tho
